A forum post spotted by All About Samsung claims that Deutsche Telekom has essentially confirmed via that forum post that the Samsung Galaxy S3 will skip Android 4.2, and be updated from Android 4.1 to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. No timeframe for the update was stated by the carrier.
Over the past few days, the Galaxy S3 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 have both been rumored to bypass Android 4.2.2, and rather get updated from the first main Jelly Bean family (Android 4.1) to the newest (Android 4.3). Samsung has not yet confirmed this, but prior to the Deutsche Telekom forum sighting, Australian carrier Telstra had suggested, though not outright confirmed, that the Galaxy Note 2 would be updated to Android 4.3, skipping Android 4.2 all together.
Moving back to Deutsche Telekom, the support representative that confirmed the Android 4.1 to Android 4.3 upgrade for the Galaxy S3 added that the carrier can only confirm this for units purchased in-store. It would stand to reason that even if not confirmed by Deutsche Telekom, all German models will get similar Android 4.1 to Android 4.3 updates, regardless of whether carrier-branded or not.
Though generally considered an incremental upgrade over Android 4.2, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean comes with its share of improvements and additional features, such as an improved Project Butter for smoother user interface navigation, and Bluetooth LE (Low Energy) support.
Android 4.3 is presently available only for Nexus-branded Google phones and tablets, and the respective Google Play editions of the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4.
