Coffee - From Food to Drink.The historical past of the discovery of coffee is rife with speculation. Its transition from meals to beverage is equally open to interpretation and historical differences.

Early European explorers and botanists believed that Ethiopians chewed raw coffee beans for electrical power right after obtaining their grazing goats consuming the coffee berry. They would pound the ripened coffee berries and combine them with animal fat so they became pasty Check This Out spherical pellets.

The focus of coffee, body fat, and protein grew to become a necessary resource of vitality and sustenance, primarily during lean times or Check This Out for the duration of war. The coffee cherries ended up also likely eaten raw because the pulp is sweet and has the extra gain of caffeine. Early records even indicate that coffee cherries ended up utilised to make wine.

Its feasible that coffee was treated as foods in Arabia as nicely.

Only later on did the early Arabs use it as a drink. Documents exhibit that the earliest version of coffee as a drink took put by steeping full coffee hulls in cold drinking water. The hulls were then roasted about an open fire, and then boiled all over again in h2o until eventually a pale yellow liquid was Website developed.

Hello guys.

I was planning to make a second map for this RP so I opened paint and made a base for the map. The base is somewhat simple because I am not a great artist at all but I will release what I already have for the sake of teamwork. I would also like to ask of you guys for any suggestions for this map and if you feel like making terrains for this map, feel free to do so. :P (As you can see the map is far from ready yet and it has to look nice after all. :P) I didn't make a legend for it yet so I will just state here what everything is.

Blue = water
Green = land
Yellow = desert/beach
Purple = this lab
Grey = city
Dark grey = city walls

If you guys would be able to help me we could finish this map and have an actually idea where we actually are in this RP once the mutants escaped. This map will also be a great source of solving mysteries but about that I am still going to keep until the right time arrives silent. :P

(Ps: If possible, please try to help me making this map and upload whatever you have done here so that we can have a greater RP experience. :D)

On the path to age-defying therapies

ScienceDaily (Mar. 29, 2012) ? One of the secrets to a longer, healthier life is simply to eat less. When subjected to calorie restriction (CR), typically defined as a 20-40% reduction in caloric intake with corresponding maintenance of proper nutrition, animals in labs not only live longer, but also have improved insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance, both of which decline during aging.

Yet, for all of its benefits, CR's restricted diet is a stumbling block for most Americans. If only we had a drug that could do the same thing.

Well, we do, sort of. The drug rapamycin, which is used for immunosuppression in organ transplantations, mimics the longevity effects of CR and may tap into the same cellular pathway as CR. Unlike CR, however, rapamycin actually impairs glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity, two hallmarks of diabetes. Clearly, rapamycin is doing something CR is not.

To understand better rapamycin's benefits and risks, researchers from the lab of Whitehead Institute Member David Sabatini and Joseph Baur, assistant professor of Physiology, at the University of Pennsylvania's Perelman School of Medicine, have discovered precisely how rapamycin is behaving at the cellular level. Their intriguing results are published this week in the journal Science.

"We know that despite its adverse effects, rapamycin still prolongs lifespan, so there's a potential that we could make it better by just having lifespan affected and not induce the adverse effects," says Sabatini, who is a professor of biology at MIT and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) investigator. "The data in this paper suggest that it's possible."

Rapamycin, which is also called sirolimus and marketed in the United States as Rapamune, is a known inhibitor of the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1), a protein complex that regulates many cellular processes linked to growth and differentiation. mTORC1 is part of a cellular signaling pathway, called mTOR, which responds to nutrients and growth factors. Mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 2 (mTORC2) is also part of the mTOR pathway and regulates insulin signaling.

Rapamycin has generally been thought to target primarily mTORC1. But work by Dudley Lamming and Lan Ye, co-authors of the Science paper and postdoctoral fellows in the Sabatini and Baur labs respectively, indicates that in mice, rapamycin also inhibits mTORC2, thereby reducing insulin sensitivity.

To see if rapamycin's positive effects on lifespan effects could be separated from its negative metabolic effects, Lamming and Ye bred mice whose mTORC1 activity was partially inhibited but whose mTORC2 activity remained largely intact. The females of this mouse population lived longer than control mice while maintaining normal insulin sensitivity.

"This shows that disrupting mTORC1 alone is capable of extending lifespan, if you can find a way do that," says Lamming.

For Baur, the experiments' results indicate that there is a possibility of identifying a better anti-aging drug than rapamycin.

"Our work highlights the potential utility of molecules that target mTORC1 specifically and suggests there is hope that by targeting this pathway, you could really get something that ameloriates age-related diseases without causing more problems than it solves," says Baur. "If you're taking an anti-aging drug as a preventive measure, you probably don't want to pay the price of diabetes."

This work was supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the American Federation of Aging Research (AFAR), the Institute on Aging at the University of Pennsylvania, the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation, the American Heart Association, and the Academy of Finland.

Research and Markets: Gabon ? Telecoms, Mobile and Broadband ...

DUBLIN?(BUSINESS WIRE)?

Dublin ? Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/2a062c34/gabon_telecoms) has announced the addition of the ?Gabon ? Telecoms, Mobile and Broadband? report to their offering.

3G Licences and More International Fibre Bandwidth Set to Boost Broadband Market in 2012

This annual report provides a comprehensive overview of trends and developments in Gabon?s telecommunications market.

Subjects Covered Include:

  • One of the most penetrated mobile markets in Africa;
  • Key statistics;
  • Market and industry overviews;
  • Government policies affecting the telecoms industry;
  • Market liberalisation and regulatory issues;
  • Telecoms operators ? privatisation, acquisitions, new licences;
  • Infrastructure development;
  • Major players (fixed, mobile and broadband);
  • Internet and broadband development and growth;
  • Convergence (voice/data, fixed/wireless/mobile).
  • Mobile voice and data markets;
  • Average revenue per user.

With competition between three service providers ? Zain (formerly Celtel, now Bharti Airtel), Gabon Telecom?s Libertis, and Etisalat?s Moov ? Gabon became one of the first countries in Africa to exceed 100% mobile market penetration in 2008. At the same time, the network operators have been able to maintain a much higher average revenue per user (ARPU) than their peers in the region.

The entry of a fourth network, USAN (operated by Bintel under the brand name Azur) into this virtually saturated market in 2009 triggered a price war that saw revenues and profits dive, forcing the operators to streamline their operations and to look for new income streams. Following more than a year of delays, a licence to offer 3G mobile broadband services was finally awarded in late 2011.

In contrast with the mobile market, Gabon?s fixed-line and internet/broadband sectors have remained underdeveloped due to a lack of competition and the resulting high prices. The country has always had sufficient international bandwidth on the SAT-3/WASC/SAFE fibre-optic submarine cable which runs from Portugal via South Africa to the Far East, but this facility has been monopolised by Gabon Telecom. The recent arrival of a second international submarine fibre optic cable (ACE), combined with the launch of 3G mobile broadband services is expected to bring significant improvements to this sector in 2012.

Market Highlights:

  • One of the highest levels of mobile penetration and ARPU in Africa;
  • 3G mobile licence finally awarded;
  • Second international fibre optic cable has landed;
  • Profiles of major players in all market sectors.

Companies Covered in This Report:

  • Gabon Telecom (Maroc Telecom, Libertis);
  • Bharti Airtel (Zain);
  • Moov (Telecel Gabon);
  • Bintel (USAN, Azur);
  • Internet Gabon;
  • Solsi;
  • IBN Corporate.

Key Topics Covered:

1. Executive summary

2. Key statistics

SMU geothermal expert David Blackwell called unconventional geothermal techniques a potential game changer for US energy policy in a Capitol Hill briefing sponsored by the NSF, Discover Magazine, IEEE and ASME

DALLAS (SMU) SMU Geothermal energy expert David Blackwell gave a Capitol Hill briefing Tuesday, March 27, on the growing opportunities for geothermal energy production in the United States, calling "unconventional" geothermal techniques a potential game changer for U.S. energy policy.

Blackwell's presentation outlined the variety of techniques available for geothermal production of electricity, the accessibility of unconventional geothermal resources across vast portions of the United States and the opportunities for synergy with the oil and gas industry. Also speaking at the briefing were Karl Gawell, executive director of the geothermal energy association, and James Faulds, professor at the University of Nevada-Reno and director of the Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology.

"This is a crucial time to do this briefing," said Blackwell, W. B. Hamilton Professor of Geophysics in SMU's Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences and one of the nation's foremost experts in geothermal mapping. "Everybody is worrying about energy right now."

The session was one in a series of continuing Congressional briefings on the science and technology needed to achieve the nation's energy goals, titled collectively, "The Road to the New Energy Economy." The briefing was organized by the National Science Foundation, DISCOVER Magazine, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada was honorary host for the March 27 briefing at the Senate Visitor's Center, which included congressional staffers, members of science and engineering associations, government, private and industry representatives.

SMU's geothermal energy research is at the forefront of the movement to expand geothermal energy production in the United States. Blackwell and Maria Richards, the SMU Geothermal Lab coordinator, released research in October that documents significant geothermal resources across the United States capable of producing more than three million megawatts of green power 10 times the installed capacity of coal power plants today. Sophisticated mapping produced from the research, viewable via Google Earth at http://www.google.org/egs/, demonstrates that vast reserves of this green, renewable source of power generated from the Earth's heat are realistically accessible using current technology.

Blackwell began his presentation by debunking the common misperception that geothermal energy is always dependent on hot fluids near the surface as in the Geysers Field in California. New techniques are now available to produce electricity at much lower temperatures than occur in a geyser field, he said, and in areas without naturally occurring fluids. For example, enhanced geothermal energy systems (EGS) rely on injecting fluids to be heated by the earth into subsurface formations, sometimes created by hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking."

Blackwell noted the potential for synergy between geothermal energy production and the oil and gas industry, explaining that an area previously "fracked" for oil and gas production (creating an underground reservoir) is primed for the heating of fluids for geothermal energy production once the oil and gas plays out.

The SMU geothermal energy expert called these "unconventional" geothermal techniques a potential game changer for U.S. Energy policy. Geothermal energy is a constant (baseload) source of power that does not change with weather conditions, as do solar and wind-powered energy sources. Blackwell noted that SMU's mapping shows that unconventional geothermal resources "are almost everywhere."

Blackwell closed his presentation with acknowledgment that site-specific studies and more demonstration projects are needed to make geothermal energy a strong partner in the new energy economy.

The briefing was taped and will be posted to the Science 360 website hosted by the National Science Foundation at a later date.

Seriously Ramp-Up Your Results Using Article Marketing

In recent years, article marketing has really taken off due to the very low cost involved and that it?s proven to drive targeted traffic. Perhaps the fastest method to create traffic is with PPC advertising, but that approach requires both knowledge and a budget. There is more ?work? involved with article marketing; however, it is not hard work and it can be rewarding. For those that do not want to be bothered, then outsourcing is a choice for article creation. The balance of this article talks about some excellent article marketing best practices suggestions that everyone should use. high performance academy

First and foremost, put all your focus on providing information to your readers through your articles, and educate them about the topic you?re talking about. Your articles can have many purposes, but if they are not for backlinking purposes, then among other things they need to pre-sell for you. Articles that are used for marketing purposes are supposed to inform and teach. When you are just talking and giving out valuable information, then the reader?s defenses will be let down to some degree. One particular format that has been hugely successful is to review a product or service within the article. Be careful to avoid only speaking in positive terms about the product because the review will seem biased in favor of the product. So writing high quality articles is all about giving away information your readers can use. Affiliate Revolution Before you even start writing your articles, remember that your target audience is online, which means your articles can?t be too long. It is well-known that online readers are impatient and want immediate information, but length will still be influenced by your target market. You can write articles for publication in directories that are long, but they need to be good because the longer articles may be syndicated on other sites. You want people to click through to your site, so give them something good but not the whole story. Wouldn?t you want your readers to visit your website for more? So let the stew in your mind a little, and then take it with you next time you write an article. Website Automation Wizard Bonus

One thing that some marketers do with positive results is to turn articles into a PDF, and then they can just give it away or post it in directories for free. This could be a collection of all your best articles or the ones that are focused on a similar topic. Of course one never knows about these things, but if your market is right that ebook can get spread around pretty well. You can even promote your own product or affiliate products in this eBook so that when it gets passed around, it?ll bring you traffic and as well as an income. Then, you can also offer this to affiliates and allow them to rebrand with their own links. If you are new to article marketing, then you will find the more experience you get the more creative you can be. It is possible to get noticed and be different in many ways, and that is what you should always try to do. The most important thing is to do high quality article marketing, and that will carry you far indeed.

Searching for a nursing home

I need to find a nursing home for my mum. Unfortunately my house is not big enough to have her here and leaving her by herself is no longer an option. I worry too much!!? I thought that a nursing home could be the best solution. I heard there are some really good ones and i?ve started my research already. I was just wondering if there?s any extra advice that anyone wants to give me or some tips I should know to find the best accommodation for my mummy. She has a few health problems but nothing major and I just want to make sure that she no longer has to worry about the house maintenance and stuff like that.

Modern Business VoIP - Risk Management

Posted by admin on March 26th, 2012 |

Running a business is all about juggling costs against profit. The lower your costs, the greater your profit margins. One of the biggest drains on a business?s financial resources can be their telecommunications bill. Conventional landline technology may be tried and tested, but it?s expensive and frankly, starting to look a little bit outdated in an age of computers, the Internet and fibre optic broadband capacity. Which is why if you?re running a business and are in the fortunate position of expanding your enterprise, considering switching your telephony to business VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) could be one of the best business decisions you make this year.

How can VoIP help my business?

If your company is growing, eventually having just one phone line is going to prove detrimental to the smooth running of your daily business. Rather than installing a second phone line that uses ordinary landline technology, a business phone line that operates on a business VoIP system can cut your costs substantially ? and you don?t even have to change your hand sets to use it.

Modern business VoIP uses your Internet connection and broadband to connect calls all over the world. The real beauty of VoIP is that it can cut your call costs to the bare minimum with no loss of quality or voice clarity. Business VoIP providers offer companies looking to install a new phone line flexible packages that could mean your international calls cost no more than the price of a local call, and, in some cases, can be free. For businesses with satellite offices in other countries or who do business with international clientele, this option makes sense. If you make a lot of international calls, having a dedicated VoIP business phone line that can provide you for both local and international calls at the same rate makes sound financial sense.

No need to buy new handsets

Because of the advances in VoIP technology, you don?t even have to buy a specially adapted handset to be able to take advantage of a VoIP business phone line. A small adapter can be fitted to an existing hand set, instantly turning it into a VoIP phone. And particularly for small businesses in the process of growing their operation, every penny counts.

Call plans designed for business users give you a complete package of national and international calls at cheap rates, all for a single monthly fee, making your accounting records for your telecommunications costs easier to keep and saving you time. Switching to VoIP can also make your business look more professional. By showing that you are actively embracing the latest technology, international clients will see that you are ready for the world stage and have future-proofed your business for growth on a global scale.

"The Pantheon of the Gods"

Father Arthus - Creator and ruler of Mirus Parvulus. Said to be the brightest star in the night sky.

Findla - Wife of Father Arthus. Watches over women and children.

Dethos & Linthos - Gods of creation and destruction, respectively.

Maranne - Goddess of nature. Mother of Dethos and Linthos.

Elthor - God of war. Father of Dethos and Linthos.

Lorelle - Goddess of love and beauty.

Haril - God of scholars and knowledge. His influence has brought about Mirus Parvulus' cultural renaissance.

Neralta - Goddess of life and death. Was once human.

Altael - God of change.

"The Creation of Mirus Parvulus"

In the beginning there were only thoughts. Fragments of emotions and ideas. Drifting about the endless corridors of nothingness, these thoughts knew only the absolute emptiness that was their existance. These thoughts began to intermingle with each other, forming more complex ideas and experiencing more intense feelings. More and more of them intertwined and they grew as a whole, becoming bigger and bigger until finally there were no more independent thoughts left. Together they formed a consciousness which humans would later call a God. Father Arthan, to be exact.

Father Arthan soon grew weary of his new life and desired a companion. Thinking on how best to create another entity, he decided that "compassion" was the least useful of all his newly gathered qualities. Extracting a piece of "compassion" from his very being, Father Arthan created the first new life in this vast nothingness. "Compassion" had taken on a new form. This form he called "woman." Humans would later know her as Findla.

Father Arthan, along with the woman, soon became restless. Bored with all the nothingness they saw before them, the two decided to create a place where they would house other beings like themselves. Using the thoughts and emotions from within them, they crafted a masterpiece. A world in which to place whatever they wished. They called this world "Mirus Parvulus." Their wonderful child. Before long their child was filled with new and beautiful creations - forests made of trees, seas from droplets, and mountains out of stone.

Realizing they needed someone to care for their new creations, Father Arthan and Findla extracted Maranne from themselves. Gentle yet wild, hardy yet frail, Maranne saw to the proper balance of nature in the world. Later, feeling threatened by the vast amounts of negative emotions he contained, Father Arthan did away with them. With the collection of emotion he created Elthor. It wouldn't be until much later that the Gods would understand his true purpose - when they would witness the power of war rage over their beautiful Mirus Parvulus.

Maranne and Elthor soon created two new beings between the two of them. They called them Dethos and Linthos - creation and destruction, respectively. Seeing what the others had made, Father Arthan and Findla saw that it was good, and set out to fill their new world with lesser beings for them to watch over. Ther "children" as they would later call them. Thus, Mirus Parvulus was home to the most complex creatures yet...humans. Lorelle and Haril were created to aid and guide the humans with unseen hands.

Then, one day something extraordinary happened. Something the Gods did not expect. Looking down on their earth, they watched a young woman named Neralta as she herself gave life to another human being. The Gods watched in awe as a tiny, flawed life was born from her flesh. Soon thereafter, Neralta's body stopped moving. She was the first human to give life. And the first to die. Findla and Lorelle wept inconsolably, sending harsh rains down upon the earth. To appease them, Father Arthan captured Neralta's essence and carried it up into the heavens. There, he granted her eternal life as the newest divine; Goddess of life and death.

The Gods saw that their new world and everything they had placed in it was perfect. They reveled in the beauty of it all and they swore that it would never change. Father Arthan, in an attempt to preserve all he had done, extracted "change" from his being and sought to seal it away forever, so that Mirus Parvulus might enjoy an eternity of happiness and prosperity. The essense of thoughts and emotions he had removed proved to be too unstable to handle. The entities swirled around each other until they combined into a new being - the last of the Gods. He called himself Altael, the God of change. He is always watching Mirus Parvulus, altering life on the planet by his fickle whims. Humans have come to accept him. Some even embrace and worship him, while others denounce him and live in fear of the God. Whether for good or for bad, Altael's influence on Mirus Parvulus is always evident.
